Massage is one of the oldest healing arts.  The earliest known records of massage date back to 3000 BC in ancient China.  Persians and Egyptians applied forms of massage for many ailments, and Hippocrates wrote papers recommending the use of rubbing and friction for joint and circulatory problems.  Today, the many benefits of massage are highly accepted and proven beneficial for many acute and chronic conditions, including low back pain, arthritis, bursitis, fatigue, high blood pressure, diabetes, immunity suppression, infertility, smoking cessation, depression, and more.  As many millions will attest, massage also helps relieve the stress and tension of everyday living that can lead to disease and illness.
Massage is the application of soft-tissue manipulation techniques to the body, generally intended to reduce stress and fatigue while improving circulation. There are many variations of massage.  Some of the most common techniques include effleurage or gliding/spreading, petrissage/kneading, friction, trigger point release, cross fiber, compression, and percussion.   At Acupuncture Integrative Therapy, an ecclectic approach is used which  incorporates many different massage techniques to best fit your needs. These techniques are often used in combination with Acupuncture creating a synergy which enhances the healing process.
